18 Year-Old Charged With Killing Uber Driver In Johnston County

MEADOW COMMUNITY – The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office STAR Team and detectives division executed a search warrant early Wednesday morning. Around 6:00am, agents descended on a dilapidated single wide mobile home on Denn Field Lane, off Holy Grove Road in the Meadow community.

Eighteen year-old Tray’vian Brown was taken into custody on Denn Field Lane and later charged with murder.

Brown is accused of fatally shooting 57 year-old Emmanuel Kwame Gbedbee of Durham, a Uber driver. Gbedee was found shot to death in his car, around 1:06am Sunday, on Holly Grove Road near Godwin Lake Road.

On the night of the murder, the victim was working as an Uber driver and is believed to have picked up Tray’vian Brown in the area of Holly Grove Road. Gbedee was found deceased in his vehicle a short distance from the location he reportedly picked up Brown.

Sheriff’s Major Jeff Caldwell said the victim had no association to the suspect prior to picking him up as an Uber driver. A motive for the murder is still unknown.

Tray’vian Brown is currently being held in the Johnston County Jail without bond.

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office and NC State Bureau of Investigation are assisting with the investigation, which remains ongoing.
