KENLY – The Johnston County Board of Education approved a $2,028,000 bid for the North Johnston High School cafeteria expansion and renovation project. The money will come from the 2018 school bond referendum.
According to Johnston County Public Schools, the project will include an addition to the existing dining area, updating the existing cafeteria’s lighting, heating and air, and a fire sprinkler system to meet current code.
Three bids were received for the renovation work. Daniels and Daniels Construction Company of Goldsboro was the lowest bidder.
A contingency of $100,000 was also allocated to cover some asbestos abatement and any unforeseen issues during the project, officials said.
2 million just for a cafeteria….good god.
AND this is just Expanding it bigger and up to code…
Amen! Just let kids eat in their class!
So let me get this straight, you’re bringing the sprinkler system up to code, new lighting, new AC… how does this add to 2 mil? Also, if you are bringing this up to code, does this mean you are allowing students into an unsafe area?
You do realize that a space not being up to current code does not necessarily mean it’s unsafe, right? All it means is that it doesn’t already meet the current code requirements.
