A young woman died in a house fire Thursday night.
Flames destroyed a home on Brown’s Church Road outside of Clinton in Sampson County around 7:00pm last night.
On Friday, authorities identified the victim as 20 year-old Jazmyne Cheyenne Tyler.
Tyler was at home alone when the flames broke out. Her family had left the house earlier in the evening.
Fire investigators said it appears Tyler attempted to flee out a back door but was overcome by the smoke and flames and could not make it to safety.
According to WRAL, the fire started in the living room near a gas heater which was in use. Officials could not determine if the heater sparked the fire but it was near the point of origin.
