.Angela Herring, a teacher assistant at West View Elementary School, has been named the 2015 Teacher Assistant of the Year for Johnston County Schools.
Herring has been an employee for Johnston County Schools for seven years. She began her journey as a volunteer, and soon after she became a substitute until an opening came up as a teacher assistant. She has worked her entire 7 years at West View Elementary with the school’s exceptional children classrooms.
Born in Jersey City, Herring lived in Virginia Beach and Japan before settling down in Johnston County.
While in Japan she served as a lead teacher for four classrooms aging from 3-6 years old. She and her husband Randy Herring have been married for 27 years and have four children, Craig, Jeremy, Breanna, and Alea.
As the 2015 Johnston County Teacher of the Year Herring received a $200 prize funded by the Johnston County Association for Teacher Assistants (JCATA).
The theme for this year’s TA banquet was a Masquerade Ball. It was hosted by the JCATA executive board and catered by JCS Child Nutrition Services. The evening’s entertainment was provided by the Clayton High School Jazz Band.
Also announced at the event were the JCATA student and TA scholarship winners. Winning the $500 student scholarship was Corinth Holders High School’s Christian Green. The winner of the $500 TA scholarship was West View Elementary School’s Lisa Estep.
