Johnston County Schools have approved the 2017-2018 school year calendar for two year-round schools.

The calendar was designed for South Smithfield Elementary and West Smithfield Elementary only.

Under the calendar adopted by the Johnston County School Board, the first day of the 2017-18 Enhancement (Year Round) calendar will be July 20, 2017.  The last day of classes will be on June 7, 2018. Five inclement weather days are built into the schedule.

Under state law, the calendar must contain a total of 215 days, including either 185 student days of 1,025 hours, 10 annual leave (vacation) days, and 11 holidays.

The board sought input from staff and parents at the two schools before adopting the calendar.

  1. good! There is no reason for a traditional calendar anymore. Kids forget so much over the summer and no reason to have 3 months at once.
