Community Volunteers Joined Staff to Clean Selma Streets for this Countywide Event
SELMA — The Town of Selma recently participated in the 2024 countywide cleanup. Staff invited volunteers to meet at Brack Wilson Park for a community-wide cleanup event on Saturday, April 20th.
As volunteers gathered, they were divided and assigned one of five littered streets. Thanks to supporting organizations like Friends of Johnston County Parks, the Johnston County Parks and Open Space Program, and Johnston County Visitors Bureau, volunteers were handed a safety vest, trash grabber, gloves, and a supply of garbage bags. The JCATS Quick Ride service also provided convenient and cool trips to and from assigned locations.
Local groups, organizations, and Town staff made up the estimated 30 volunteers. The newly welcomed Amazon RDU2 Warehouse General Manager and Partner lead a group of Amazon employees eager to get to work. The Selma community was represented by several other individuals, including Activate Selma representatives.
At the end of the cleanup event, it was estimated that nearly fifty large garbage bags were filled in just a short period.
“This was an amazing effort, and we are so grateful that these volunteers and new friends pitched in to help,” stated Nikki Wall, Town of Selma Community Engagement Coordinator. “We plan to conduct quarterly cleanup events throughout the year to help keep the town clean and focus on important community areas.”
The Town of Selma is planning another cleanup event for August. Visit Selma-NC.com and follow them on Facebook for more information. School and community groups are welcome and encouraged to volunteer for these events. Future cleanup events will focus on a variety of community projects around the Town of Selma.
The town of Selma is refusing churches to allow homeless people to sleep and seek shelter. They are also sending cops to cut up homeless camps tents. But yeah they picked up some trash.
Give me some evidence of that…
