21 Year-Old Driver Killed In Three Car Wreck

Charges are pending following a fatal three vehicle accident Tuesday morning, according to the NC Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the wreck occurred at 7:55am on Bryant Road near Ashe Avenue between Dunn and Erwin in Harnett County.

A 2017 Ford Expedition was traveling eastbound on Bryant Road and driven by Clarence J. Strickland, 71, of Delano Street, Dunn.  The Expedition crossed the centerline and collided with two oncoming westbound vehicles.

The first vehicle was a 2001 Chevy truck driven by Steven Bernard McBride, 46, of Butler Road, Salemburg. The second vehicle was a 2012 Ford Mustang operated by Hunter Kay Watkins, 21, of Hobson Road, Dunn.  Watkins died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

Troopers said there were 2 passengers in the Expedition and one passenger in the Chevy truck and Mustang.  A total of four people were transported to Wake Med in Raleigh with non-life threatening injuries. Photo by The Daily Record
