Damage to a sewer line is being blamed for a 28,285 gallons sewage spill in the Town of Clayton.
Officials said the spill occurred Thursday, June 6th. A contractor was installing a new gravity sewer line and while digging damaged a sewer pipe causing the spill. The untreated wastewater entered Sam’s Branch Creek near the 900 block of Randolph Street.
As required by state law, the Town of Clayton notified the NC Division of Water Resources about the discharged. State officials are reviewing the matter.
