Three people were sent to the hospital following a serious accident directly in front of Wilson’s Mills Fire Station #2 Wednesday morning.
Firefighters and an ambulance were on the scene within seconds of the crash and began treating the victims. The accident occurred in the 2500 block of Cleveland Road, outside of Smithfield near Short Journey Road.
Initial reports from the Highway Patrol indicate a pickup truck was traveling west on Cleveland Road during a rainstorm. The truck hydroplaned and traveled into the eastbound lane striking a small SUV. Three people in the SUV were rushed to Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. The condition of those injured was not immediately released.
The crash was so violent the bed separated from the cab of the pickup truck. The SUV came to rest in the roadway. The truck and the truck bed came to rest off the roadway.
