A Johnston County school bus headed to McGee’s Crossroads Elementary School with 21 students on board was involved in a collision with a passenger car this morning (Friday).
The accident happened shortly after 8:00am on Sanders Road near Ben Circle north of Benson.
Bus number 703 was about to pick up another student when a black passenger car ran under the rear of the bus.
According to the Highway Patrol, the bus was traveling east on Sanders Road and was stopped with its flashing red lights on and stop-arm extended when it was struck from behind.
Two students and the driver of the car were transported to a local hospital with only minor injuries.
The bus was leaking diesel fuel following the crash so the children were quickly evacuated from the vehicle.
While EMS workers evaluated each student, nearby neighbors brought a cooler full of cold drinks for the children.
Some parents picked up their children while the others were transferred to another bus and taken to school. Charges are pending against the driver of the car.
