3 Year-Old Dies From Apparent Drowning

Lions Gate Drowning 1The pool at LionsGate Athletic Club in Clayton was closed on Friday, one day after a 3 year-old child apparently drowned in the swimming pool.

The young boy died Wednesday evening after being pulled from the pool at 18 Middleton Street in Clayton.

The 911 call came in just after 6:00pm and first responders arrived within 2 minutes.  Lifeguards had pulled the child from the water and Johnston County EMS personnel, along with Town of Clayton firefighters performed CPR and other life-saving measures.

Town of Clayton spokesperson Stacy Beard said, “Our thoughts go out to the family who was on scene to help first responders and our officers try to save this little boy.”

Beard said an autopsy is being performed at the state medical examiners office. Until the autopsy is complete and out of respect for the family’s privacy, officials are withholding the name of the child.

Beard said the Town of Clayton was not involved in the decision to close the LionsGate pool on Friday.  Lions Gate Drowning 3
