$300 Check Turns Into $800: Benson Resident Arrested

BENSON — A local woman is facing felony charges after authorities say she altered a business check from $300 to $800.

Tina Marie Williams, 44, of Amy Lane, Benson, was arrested January 22 by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident came to light after Fast Lane Towing in Stedman purchased a 2012 Chrysler from Williams in December 2025. The company paid her $300 for the vehicle with a company check. The towing company altered deputies after they discovered the check amount had been altered and cashed.

Williams now faces charges of forgery of an instrument, a felony. She was held under a $5,000 secured bond.
