SMITHFIELD – Four people were transported to Wake Medical Center after a passenger car and small van collided. The accident occurred just after 11:00am today (Tuesday) on N. Brightleaf Boulevard at Peedin Road.
The impact caused the van to overturn trapping the driver and passenger inside. Smithfield Fire personnel used extrication tools to remove the roof and free the two victims.
A young woman and baby in the passenger car were also injured.
Johnston County EMS responded with four ambulances to treat the victims.
The accident caused traffic delays for more than an hour.
Smithfield Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
