4,000 Eighth Graders To Attend Inaugural JOCO WORKS Career Expo At JCC

Event is open to the general public from 2-4 p.m. Nov. 14.

The inaugural JOCO WORKS Career Expo will be held Nov. 14-15 at Johnston Community College in Smithfield.

Presented by Novo Nordisk, JOCO WORKS is an industry-led collaborative supported by education, business, civic, and government partners created to meet the Johnston County, North Carolina (JOCO) workforce needs of the future.

The collaborative will culminate in a curriculum and experienced-based career exposition reserved specifically for 4,000 Johnston County eighth-grade students from 8:30-1:30 p.m. Nov. 14-15 on the main campus at JCC.

The event is open to the general public, home school students, high school students, post-secondary students, parents, community members, and job seekers from 2-4 p.m. on Nov. 14. Home school students should register to attend at www.jocoworks.net.

“We are thrilled to host the inaugural JOCO WORKS Career Expo at Johnston Community College,” said Dr. David Johnson, JCC president. “This event will present real-world simulations of career options by top employers in our region, and students will have the opportunity to explore exciting career paths in 10 different industry worlds. By attending JOCO WORKS, students will learn how to begin building a meaningful career at the beginning of high school.”

“Johnston County Public Schools is delighted to collaborate with Johnston Community College for this event,” said Johnston County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jim Causby. “We believe this will be a valuable experience for our students as they begin to consider future careers.”

Each career path will include sample occupations, general education requirements, and average salaries within the industry.

The 2019 JOCO WORKS World Leaders are Agri Supply/Direct Distributors, Inc., Capital Area Workforce Development, Gregory Poole Equipment Company, Caterpillar, Duke Energy, ElectriCities, Grifols, Johnston County Building Industry Association, Johnston County Visitors Bureau, Johnston Health, and Sysco.

The JOCO WORKS collaborative partners include: Johnston Community College, Johnston County Public Schools, Johnston County Economic Development, Neuse Charter School, Triangle East Chamber of Commerce, Triangle East Economic Development Foundation, Clayton Chamber of Commerce, Benson Chamber of Commerce, Greater Cleveland Chamber of Commerce, Kenly Chamber of Commerce, Four Oaks Chamber of Commerce, and the towns of Johnston County.
