47 Acres Rezoned Near Airport

The Town of Smithfield has rezoned 47 acres of land next to the 110-lot Whitley Height subdivision for future business use.  The property is owned by Steven Gower.

In a unanimous decision, the town council agreed to rezone the land, near the intersection of US 70 Business West and Cloverdale Drive, from Residential-Agricultural to Business and Light Industrial. The eastern portion of the land contains environmentally sensitive wetlands and the Little Poplar Creek floodplain.

The property owner requested the rezoning to work with the Johnston County Economic Development Office to have the acreage site certified for potential future business development.  The land is also in close proximity to the Johnston County Airport.
