Eight people were injured when two cars collided Thursday night in Smithfield. It happened at 5:31pm on US 301 South at Wal-Pat Road.
Smithfield Police said Tazmont Daquan Groves, 21, of Kay Drive, Smithfield was making a left turn from Wal-Pat Road onto US 301 in a 2002 Dodge SUV but pulled into the path of a 2005 Dodge passenger car traveling southbound on US301 and driven by Stephanie Christa Hall, 26, of Sandy Road, Four Oaks.
Both drivers were injured along with 6 children ranging in age from 5 to 10 that were riding in Groves vehicle.
Johnston County EMS responded and transported 6 of the 8 victims to Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield, including 5 of the 6 children. All the injuries were minor.
Officer R.J. Stewart cited Groves for an unsafe movement violation. Damage to each vehicle was estimated at $2,500.
