Police have charged a passenger in a car with causing a near head-on collision that sent six people to the hospital.
The accident happened just before 11:00pm Monday on US301 near West Jones Avenue in Selma.
Selma Police said a 2004 Dodge was traveling northbound when a passenger, Jordan Donovan Bodrick, 19, of Towbridge Drive, Smithfield grabbed the steering wheel causing the car to cross the centerline and median turn lane and into the southbound lanes where it struck a 2010 Cadillac.
Police said Bodrick was arguing with the driver of the Dodge, Currie Cecelia Johnson, 18, of Old English Court, Smithfield when he grabbed the steering wheel causing the crash. Both Johnson and Currie were injured along with 4 people in the Cadillac, including the driver Patricia Ward Barfield, 65, of Oliver Street, Pine Level, and three passengers, George Bryant, 64, Crystal Stewart, 34, and Shirley Bridges, 42, all of Oliver Street, Pine Level.
All six of the injured were taken to Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield. Bodrick was charged with reckless driving with wanton disregard for the safety of others. Photos by John Payne
