While not doing his homework, a local first grader is excelling in four wheeler racing. Six year-old Dylan Young Jones recently won First Place Championship trophies in three series: the 50cc class for New East Extreme Dirt Track Southern Series, the 70cc class for New East Extreme Dirt Track Southern Series, and the 50cc class for New East Extreme Dirt Track National Series.
Dylan began racing four wheelers in March 2016 at the age of 5. He started racing locally in the East Coast Extreme Dirt Track Series and later competed in several national events. At the end of 2016 he was hooked and decided to compete again in 2017.
This year has been nothing short of amazing for Dylan and his parents, Eric and Christina Jones of Clayton. They have traveled to competitions in Kinston, Goldsboro, Salisbury and as far away as Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Dylan finished the 2017 season First Place in points in the New East Extreme Dirt Track Series. Two other Clayton youth finished the season in the top three: Adeline Side was 2nd in points and Everett Side was third.
Dylan is in the first grade at Polenta Elementary. While not riding and racing his ATV he enjoys playing basketball and baseball.
His grandparents are David and Lisa Nelms of Angier and Stan and Lisa Jones of Clayton. His sponsors this year are Wood Well Done Racing and On Top Building Company.
