A large sewage spill occurred Tuesday in Smithfield.
The spill happened at a sewer pump station off Highway 70 and resulted in the discharge of about 6,000 gallons of wastewater, according to Town of Smithfield Water and Sewer Superintendent Aubrey Butler.
The problem was discovered around 9:00 am Tuesday and was cleaned up within 3 hours, Butler told WTSB News.
