4:43pm Update – Authorities said the crash was called by a northbound vehicle that crossed through the median cable and struck a southbound vehicle causing the multi-vehicle pile up.
4:40pm Update – One southbound lane of I-95 at Benson has reopened. Both southbound lanes are expected to reopen by 5:00pm.
4:35pm Update – 8 people have been transported to area hospitals for injuries. 3 of those injuries are considered serious.
BENSON – A crash involving multiple vehicles has shut down Interstate 95 in southern Johnston County.
The accident was reported around 2:30pm today (Wednesday) in the southbound lanes of I-95 just south of the I-40 interchange.
The wreck has involved two tractor trailers and at least four cars.
Initial reports indicate 9 people have been injured. Approximately 4 of those injuries are classified as serious.
Multiple emergency vehicles are on the scene.
Southbound lanes of I-95 are expected to be closed for several hours.
