KENLY – An 85 year-old woman was awakened by a burglar allegedly kicking in the back door to her home. The frightening ordeal happened around 4:30am Sunday, Sept. 27th on Highway 301 near Kenly.
The victim was able to call a relative and notify them of the burglary. Moments later, the intruder confronted her in the kitchen stating that he forced his way inside because he was cold.
John Erwin Horton Jr., 29, of Beulahtown Road, Kenly was charged with felony breaking and entering and misdemeanor injury to property. Horton was held on a $5,000 bond.
Johnston County deputies estimated damage at $200 to the back door of the residence.
The elderly woman was not physically harmed.
