SMITHFIELD – On Saturday, Nov. 2, the Junior Women’s League of Smithfield (JWL) will host its ninth annual Touch-A-Truck event. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., families can explore a variety of vehicles, including big rigs, emergency vehicles, construction equipment and other big machines that spark excitement and curiosity. The event will take place in the 200 block of S. Third Street in Downtown Smithfield. A horn-free quiet hour will be available from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. to accommodate those who prefer a calmer experience.
Admission is free to the event, with all-access passes to the Playland available for $5. The playland includes bounce houses, face painting, games, and more. Train rides will be available for $2 each. Both cash and credit cards will be accepted. Make sure to bring your appetite— the Fueling Station will feature a wide variety of food trucks, perfect for satisfying every craving.
“This event wouldn’t be possible without the support from our generous sponsors, dedicated members, and the incredible truck drivers and food truck vendors who make it such a success year after year,” said event co-chair, Kelsey Davis. “We can’t wait to see the smiles on kids’ faces as they explore these amazing machines and enjoy a fun-filled day with their families.”
Amanda Johnson, an event co-chair, added, “Touch-A-Truck not only brings joy to children but also enables us to give back to Johnston County in meaningful ways. Through the funds raised, we’re able to support programs that make a real difference in the lives of women and children.”
Proceeds from Touch-A-Truck will directly benefit Johnston County through JWL’s initiatives, such as the Johnston County Blessing Boxes and scholarships for women. The funds also support grants for other Johnston County non-profits to assist with the development of programs benefiting women and children. Since its inception in 2015, JWL has awarded over $171,000 in Community Impact Grants, league initiatives, and Student Scholarships.
JWL will also be collecting non-perishable food and personal care items to stock their Blessing Boxes throughout Johnston County. Donations can be dropped off at the collection site, located under the Touch-A-Truck flag.
