Johnston Health in Smithfield will be conducting an active shooter drill on Wednesday morning. Specifically, the staff will be responding to an overhead announcement, alerting the hospital to an active shooter.
As you know, these types of shootings are happening with more frequency across the country. The purpose of this drill is to help employees practice what they have learned, and to look for ways to improve their response. As always, the well-being, safety and protection of patients is a top priority of the hospital.
Johnston Health will be taking care of patients as usual Wednesday morning, and will let them, their families and visitors know about the drill, which will last about 15 minutes.
There will be no guns or gun fire during the event. Representatives of local law enforcement agencies will be on campus to observe and advise.
