After 36 Years, Vision World Owner Retiring

After serving customers for 36 years, Wednesday was the last day on the job for Marvin Woodard, the owner of Vision World Opticians in Smithfield.

Marvin and his wife, Brenda, opened a store next to the IGA in January 1979 and in 1990 moved to their present location next to Belk’s.

Marvin estimates he served about 1 million customers in the 36 years he has been in business.  He says he will missing his many customers. “I appreciate all their support and loyalty.”  A retirement dinner was held last week at Robin’s Nest which was attended by dozens of family, friends and customers.

He also says he will miss talking with his lifelong friend Carl Lamm on AM-1090 WTSB.  Carl conducts a phone interview with Marvin three times a week.

After today, Marvin plans to spend more time with his wife and family plus also do some fishing.

Customers may not see Marvin at Vision World after today (Wednesday) but they will see a relative.  Randy Godwin and his wife, Lisa, have purchased the business. They have more than 20 years experience in the eye care industry.

Vision World Opticians is open Monday through Friday from 9am until 5pm and after hours by appointment.  The phone number is 919-934-1272.
