Each year, the state of North Carolina investigates thousands of allegations of child abuse and neglect. Locally, the Johnston County Child Protective Services investigates hundreds of those allegations. This month, in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Johnston County Department of Social Services is urging the community to create a joint commitment to protect our county’s youngest and most vulnerable.
On Tuesday, a balloon release was held at the Department of Social Services to officially kick off Child Abuse Prevention Month. Members of the Department Social Services released balloons representing the number of children that were abused in Johnston County in 2015. It was a visual reminder of just how many children have been victimized locally, as well as raise awareness for prevention.
