Area Men Caught In Federal Sting

Operation Wintry Mix Nabs 22

Two area men face federal charges following a coordinated warrant enforcement operation among several law enforcement agencies.

According to a press release from U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina Robert J. Higdon, Albert Vines, 28, of Dunn and Joseph Luther Lewis, 28, of Spring Lake were among 22 arrests during Operation Wintry Mix.

Mr. Vines was indicted on two counts each of Hobbs Act Robbery (a robbery that obstructs, delays or affects interstate commerce) and a felon in possession of a firearm. He was also charged with one count each of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking activity.

Mr. Lewis was charged with single counts of felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm.

Also indicted on various drug and weapons charges and subsequently arrested were 11 suspects from Fayetteville, one from Rex, N.C. and one from Raleigh.

The operation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firerams and Explosives, the United States Marshal Service, the Fayetteville Police Department, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office, the North Carolina Department of Public Safety Adult Probation and the United States Probation Office.
