An armed man thwarted a break-in at a Johnston County church.
Around 10:00pm Saturday, a 26 year-old man was performing cleaning work inside Johnson Memorial Church at 8280 Highway 50 North near McGee’s Crossroads when he heard a noise at the main entrance to the church.
The man found a person pulled on the front door in an attempt to break in.
The man pulled out his handgun. The suspect observed the man and his gun and fled.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect was a black male, 6 foot 2, wearing a brown coat and backwards ball cap. He fled on Highway 50 in a gold 1990’s model extended cab Ford Ranger pickup.
Authorities said the person inside the church was licensed to carry a concealed weapon.

No items were taken and no damage was reported.
