Arrest Made In 2023 Sexual Assault Investigation

SMITHFIELD – A lengthy investigation into an alleged sexual assault has led to an arrest.

Juan Ismael Navarro of Smithfield was arrested February 4, 2025 by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office on a felony second-degree rape warrant.

On October 30, 2023, the female victim reported the assault. Detectives worked on the case for more than a year until they had enough evidence to charge the 47 year-old man.

The assault reportedly occurred at the victim’s home. The suspect and victim were acquaintances.
