Arson Ruled As Cause Of Smithfield House Fire

A fire that destroyed a vacant home has been ruled arson.  A Town of Smithfield electrical crew was doing work in East Smithfield around 2:45pm Monday when they saw smoke coming from an unoccupied house at 902 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

The Smithfield Fire Department responded to the scene and were assisted by the Selma, Pine Level and Four Oaks Fire Departments.   It took just over an hour to fully contain the fire.

The Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office and Smithfield Police Department was called in to investigation. A NC State Bureau of Investigation Accelerant Detection K-9 was also brought in.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
