Authorities Identify Victim, Suspect In Smithfield Homicide

SMITHFIELD — A Smithfield man was charged with first-degree murder after an overnight shooting.

Smithfield Police said Albert Abdelnor, 23, is accused of fatally shooting Rene Antonio Maldenado-Garay, 28, in the yard of a residence at the 301 Mobile Home Park on South Brightleaf Boulevard near Wal-Pat Road.

Officers were called to the scene around 10 p.m. Monday, where they found Maldenado-Garay fatally shot.

Police said the shooting stemmed from an ongoing family dispute between the two men. Abdelnor remained at the scene and cooperated with detectives.

A shotgun believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered.

Abdelnor was taken into custody and booked into the Johnston County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond on a charge of first-degree murder.

The investigation remains ongoing.
