Authorities Looking For Tractor Trailer That Damaged US 301 Bridge

Pieces of concrete were cleaned up today on U.S. 301 in Wilson County after a tractor-trailer struck a bridge and drove off. Several vehicles also were damaged.

The N.C. Department of Transportation has closed the Langley Road bridge over U.S. 301 near Elm City in Wilson County after a tractor-trailer hauling too high of a load struck and damaged the bridge on Wednesday night.

The damage caused pieces of reinforced concrete to fall onto the roadway below, striking several vehicles that had to be towed for repairs. NCDOT crews cleaned up the roadway and reopened U.S. 301 South on Thursday morning.

The department does not have an immediate timeline for repairing and reopening the bridge.

The department and law enforcement are asking for the public’s help in locating the driver of the overloaded tractor-trailer. The department has pieces of the equipment that the unidentified driver was hauling.

Individuals with tips on the hit and run tractor trailer may call NC DOT’s Division 4 office in Wilson at 252-640-6400.
