Auto Business Gives Away Car, Helps Those In Need

If you drive by Johnson Transmission and Auto Service, Inc. located at 1648 NC 55 Highway in the Meadow community (at the Johnston-Sampson County line outside of Newton Grove) you might think it looks like any ordinary car dealership and transmission repair shop. However, it doesn’t take customers long to realize this is not your ordinary auto business, thanks to owner Jerry Johnson and his employees.

In connection with an organization called Wheels To Prosper, Jerry has been giving away a car to a deserving individual for the past four years. In addition, Johnson Transmission and Auto Service donates a $500.00 monthly car repair to a deserving person.

During a special event at the business in December, Manuel Santiago was chosen as the recipient of the 2017 Wheels To Prosper car giveaway. Manuel was nominated by letter. He chosen by a field of five judges out a field of 37 nominations.

During the event a pig picking was held and music was provided by Eric Strickland. There were also door prizes. Approximately 150 people were in attendance.

According to his employees, Jerry Johnson is a great boss, who goes above and beyond for them and his community.

He looks for someone that has suffered a hardship or is suffering from hardship during Christmas and helps contribute what is needed.

Before school each year, he donates supplies to local students. He also sponsors ball teams, and school events such as Skills USA. But perhaps he will best be remembered as the businessman who gives away a car every year.
