Law enforcement authorities are releasing limited information after a baby was hospitalized after reportedly swallowing illicit narcotics.
Smithfield Police Captain R. Sheppard confirmed officers were summoned to Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield around 3:20AM Sunday after a 19 month-old baby was taken to the Emergency Department for medical care. The baby was later transferred to another medical facility for additional treatment.
On Monday, the child was was released from the hospital
Police have not disclosed how the 19 month-old gained access to the narcotics, nor have they said what type of illicit drugs the child swallowed.
The investigating into the incident is still continuing.
