The NC Department of Transportation will close the Bagley Road Bridge over Interstate 95 outside of Kenly for three nights this week, weather permitting. The closures are necessary for crews to replace expansion joints on the bridge.
The bridge, located at Exit 105, will be closed the nights of Tuesday, June 23,Wednesday, June 24, and Thursday, June 25, starting at 7 p.m. and opening at 6 a.m. the following day. No closures will be in place during the day.
Expansion joints protect a bridge from damage due to extreme temperatures by expanding during warm weather and contracting during cold weather. Replacing the joints is a necessary part of regular bridge maintenance to preserve the life of the bridge.
Bagley Road will be accessible to all traffic from I-95 during the closures. Motorists from both directions of I-95 will be able to turn right on Bagley Road but will not be able to turn left and cross the bridge. Motorists wanting to turn left on Bagley Road will continue on I-95, take the next exit, come back down I-95 from the opposite direction to Bagley Road and turn right at the end of the exit ramp.
Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling in the area and to expect delays. NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
