A bank manager thwarted an armed robbery Thursday morning.
Around 9:15am, Zebulon Police responded to the attempted robbery at the PNC Bank on N. Arendell Avenue. Police Chief Timothy Hayworth said the suspect started to approach the rear door of the bank wearing a mask, gloves and a hoodie. An alert bank manager observed the suspect approaching and physically held the door shut, not allowing the suspect inside.
The suspect then pulled out a small black semi automatic handgun which he began to use to strike the door. The manager continued to hold the door shut as the suspect continued to pull on the door.
Eventually, the suspect fled on foot from the bank. Chief Hayworth said officers are looking to question the occupants of a small gray vehicle parked behind Mincey’s Shoe Shop on Gannon Avenue at the time of the attempted robbery. The suspect was a black male, between 5 foot 9 and 6 foot tall, with a medium build, wearing dark pants, a dark hoodie with a gray shirt underneath, a red scarf or bandana, a light colored mask, gloves and black tennis shoes. He was also wearing a back pack.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact The Zebulon Police Department at 919-823-1818 or East Wake Crimestoppers, 919-366-CRIM (2746). A reward will be provided for information leading to the arrest of a suspect or suspects in this crime.
