Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested Following Chase

Authorities arrested a bank robbery suspect following a chase Friday afternoon in Johnston County.

The suspect, 36 year-old Michael Scott King, allegedly entered the Southern Bank on Red Oak Road in Nash County Friday afternoon and handed a note to a teller demanding money.  The suspect then fled in a silver Nissan Altima.  He was also wanted for a larceny from a Rocky Mount business sometime earlier.

King has residential addresses in Nash, Wake and Johnston counties and authorities in all 3 counties were on the lookout for him and his car.

Shortly after 4:00pm, King was spotted by Kenly Police in his car at a motel. When officers attempted to take him into custody he sped away.

Kenly Police pursued the bank robbery suspect several miles until King ran off the roadway into a ditch on Princeton-Kenly Road.

The robbery suspect reportedly assaulted a Kenly police officer before being taken into custody. King was transported to the hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries before being transported to jail. The Kenly officer was checked out at the scene by Johnston County EMS paramedics but not transported.

Kenly Police were assisted by Micro Police, Johnston County sheriff’s deputies and the NC Highway Patrol.
