Due to the increased risk of coming in contact with and spreading the virus in large social gatherings and frequented public places, the Town of Benson announced Friday they will cancel or postpone all town events and town-hosted events for 30 days — effective after 5:00 pm today (March 13th).
To clarify, the Benson Town Hall will remain open during normal hours (8:30am-5pm), while all after-hours events at Parks & Recreation, WJ Barefoot Auditorium, Lee Street Gymnasium, Town Hall Conference Center facilities, and Singing Grove will be postponed or canceled for 30 days beginning at 5pm March 13th.
Benson Parks & Recreation will operate daily on reduced hours — opening at 8am and closing at 5pm for the next 30 days with no access public access to the building.
The Benson Museum will be completely closed for the next 30 days. The Benson Library is currently closed for renovations — the reopening of the library, originally planned for later this month, will now be rescheduled to a future date. Those with books or items to return to the library are asked to wait until the library is reopened to do so (fees will not accrue during this 30-day closure period).
Over the course of the next 30 days, town officials said they will closely monitor the COVID-19 situation locally and adjust their closure plan as needed.
