Benson Man Charged With Armed Robbery

A Benson man was arrested Friday morning for reportedly robbing a Willow Spring resident inside their home.  At 12:05am Friday, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting an armed robbery at a home in the 1400 block of Landmark Road.

Deputies said a 33 year-old man was on his couch when a known individual entered his home armed with a gun.  The suspect demanded money, then struck the victim over the head with the firearm.  The suspect stole an undisclosed amount of money, but before fleeing fired the gun inside the residence.

Deputies said the suspect, Tobiaz Rakwon McKoy was located at his home in the Gaines Mobile Home Park on Chicopee Road in the Benson city limits about two hours later.  Benson Police and Johnston County deputies surrounded the home.  A family member was able to speak with McKoy by telephone and convinced him to surrender. He was taken into custody without further incident.

McKoy was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was booked in at Johnston County Jail on a $100,000 secured bond.

The robbery victim was treated at the scene by EMS for a minor head injury.
