A man who stole a Christmas tree earlier this month has been arrested. Thanks to new information in the case, authorities on Sunday were able to arrest 26 year-old Jonathon Dwayne Barefoot of Morgan Road, Benson on larceny charges.
On December 1st, security cameras captured a man identified as Barefoot pull up to Mac’s General Merchandise on Highway 242 South of Benson. Barefoot allegedly stole a Christmas tree for sale in front of the store, placed it on top of the SUV he was driving, tied it down, then sped away.
Barefoot was given a $1,000 bond on the misdemeanor charge. A spokesperson for the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said Monday the stolen Christmas tree has not been recovered.
In an unrelated case, authorities are still trying to identify who stole a Christmas decoration from the front yard of a home on Crantock Road three weeks ago.
