BENSON – The Town of Benson and the Benson Museum of Local History are excited to announce this year’s Black History honoree is Commissioner and Mayor Pro-Tem Casandra Stack.
As a lifelong Benson resident with a rich history in helping to shape the community, it’s no surprise she received multiple nominations and the Museum Board felt she was the perfect choice as this year’s honoree. “She is directly involved in the decision making for the town. She is interested in seeing Benson grow and develop,” reads one of the nominations.
Mrs. Stack was Benson’s first female commissioner and is entering into her twenty-first year serving on the board.
“Casandra has made a huge impact in Benson by serving on the Board of Commissioners. She has served several terms and has done an outstanding job. She is very professional and fair,” reads one nomination. Likewise, the submissions go on to mention her love for her hometown and her interest in its growth and prosperity.
“She has the ability to approach matters that specifically relate to the African American community with a greater insight that comes from her own personal experiences, knowledge, and understanding,” states one nomination. “Casandra has a deep love for her town and is dedicated to making the necessary changes for Benson’s future generations.”
Not just a familiar face on the Town Board, you can see Mrs. Stack out and about at local events throughout the year as she makes it a point to be involved in her community.
“She has represented Benson on a number of occasions,” mentions another nomination. “When her busy schedule allows, she is always willing to volunteer within her community to make a difference.”
Mrs. Stack is a graduate of Mount Olive University. She currently works for Commwell Health as a Talent Development Specialist where she provides health care services for people in rural communities.
“As always, we are excited for this year’s honoree,” said Benson Cultural Arts Director Derrick Barefoot. “This one is special to us as well because we have worked with Casandra for years and have seen firsthand her love for this community through her work and assistance with all kinds of Town events.”
Similar to previous years, a mini documentary about Mrs. Stack’s impact on the Benson community will be produced and will premiere at the Town’s Black History Month Celebration.
The Benson Museum of Local History’s 13th Annual Black History Month Celebration honoring Casandra Stack will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at 3:00pm at the Barn at Broadslab, 4676 NC Highway 50 South, Benson. The event is free and open to the public.
