Benson Woman Arrested For Obstructing Justice

BENSON – A 37 year-old woman has been charged with obstructing justice following an investigation into an alleged prescription pill theft.
On February 15, 2023, Heather Elizabeth Hassler of Lansing Drive, Benson reported to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office someone had picked up her prescription from a McGee’s Crossroads area pharmacy without her consent. Hassler was able to provide the name of the person who had picked up the medication from the pharmacy but reportedly stated they did not have permission.
While investigating the allegations, detectives learned Hassler had in fact given the individual permission to pick up Suboxone pills. Authorities allege Hassler filed a false police report so she could obtain a new prescription from her doctor to obtain more Suboxone.
Hassler was arrested March 6 and charged with obstructing justice, a felony. She was held in the Johnston County Jail on a $25,000 secured bond.
