On Saturday, April 28th, history buffs, community leaders, and preservationists will aid in the maintenance and restoration of numerous sites as part of Park Day, the Civil War Trust’s annual hands-on preservation event. Thousands of volunteers across the country will participate as Park Day celebrates its largest year ever with over 155 historic sites in 32 states.
In Four Oaks, Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site will host a Park Day event beginning at 9:00am. The primary task for volunteers will be the expansion of Bentonville’s Morris Farm trail but other volunteer opportunities may also be possible.
Hand tools such as loppers and rakes are encouraged but power equipment like chainsaws are prohibited.
A Historian will be present to describe to volunteers the historic site’s significance.

The Battle of Bentonville, fought March 19-21, 1865, involved 80,000 troops and was the last Confederate offensive against Union Gen. William T. Sherman. Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site interprets the battle and the hospital, where many Confederates were left in the aftermath.
The site is located at 5466 Harper House Road, Four Oaks, NC, three north of Newton Grove on Harper House Road about one hour from Raleigh and about 45 minutes from Fayetteville.
