View a timeline of America’s military at Bentonville this Saturday and Sunday March 17th and 18th when the Bentonville Battlefield will commemorate its 153rd Anniversary with a display of the different weapons, vehicles, and other equipment used by the armed forces over the course of American history.
The first program of its kind to be hosted at Bentonville in over 10 years, visitors will learn from interpreters representing over 300 years of history about how the equipment of war has changed from the age of exploration to today. Weapons demonstrations will occur throughout the day Saturday andSunday, 10:00am-4:00pm. The Bentonville Volunteer Fire Department will be selling concessions on site. The program is free.
The Battle of Bentonville, fought March 19-21, 1865, involved 80,000 troops and was the last Confederate offensive against Union Gen. William T. Sherman. Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site interprets the battle and the hospital, where many Confederates were left in the aftermath.
The site is located at 5466 Harper House Road, Four Oaks, NC 27524, 3 miles north of Newton Grove on S.R. 1008, about one hour from Raleigh and about 45 minutes from Fayetteville.
Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site is part of the Division of State Historic Sites in the N.C.Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
