The Johnston County School Board has approved a $274,726 contract for HVAC improvements at the North Johnston High School gymnasium.
This is the first project for North Johnston High from the 2018 bond referendum. In 2007, the current competition gym was added as an alternate on a classroom and locker room addition. The HVAC system for the gym was tied into the existing four-pipe water system that serves the entire campus.
In a report to the school board, “There is inadequate capacity in the current system to maintain the temperature consistently on a day-to-day basis, but is unable to adequately condition the air during heavily-attended events.” The project will add a separate split air conditioning system which will provide the additional capacity need for the gymnasium.
Southern Piping Company of Wilson was the low bidder on the project. $191,256.49 will be paid for from 2018 bond funds. The remainder will come from generated sales tax from the $30 million LGC funds.
