Bid Awarded For Police Station Expansion Project

Construction will being this Spring on a 3,500 square foot addition to the Smithfield Police Station on South Fifth Street. The Smithfield Town Council awarded a low bid for the expansion project to APR Restoration & Commercial Development, Inc. The bid was for $784,571.74. 

The contract includes architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural and civil design and permitting as well as construction of the building expansion and additional parking according to a report from Town Engineer Bill Dreitzler. The town will borrow the money to pay for the project.

The current 7,884 square foot police station was built in 1997. The bulk of the new addition will be for evidence storage and a bay to store a seized vehicle. In addition, there will be an armory, more office space, and additional bathrooms. The existing building will receive new flooring, paint and carpet.
