The purchase of a new work van was recently approved by the Smithfield Town Council. The cost of the vehicle and upfit came in under budget.
The council awarded the $21,987 bid to Classic Ford of Smithfield for a new Ford Transit Connect van for the Public Utilities department. The van will be used for the electric meter technician. Town staff will use an additional $3,000 to install shelving and up-fit equipment.
The public utilities department had budgeted $35,000 for the vehicle purchase in the 2020-2021 fiscal year budget.
