The Town of Smithfield will use $40,000 in state grant funds to help pay for the cost of repairs to the Greenway system.
JP Edwards Inc. of Smithfield has agreed to perform the repair work at a cost of $72,917 to the Town. $40,000 of the costs will be paid for with funds from a state grant. The remainder will come from a contingency fund in the Town budget.
A section of the Neuse River bank approximately 500 feet south of the Neuse Little Theatre failed earlier this year. The bank needs to be stabilized to protect the greenway trail through the area.
The repair is similar to bank stabilization that took place earlier this year behind the old scout building on North Front Street.
JP Edwards was the low bidder on the project. Stewart Group Enterprises, LLC of Benson submitted a slightly higher bid for the work at $74,615. JoCoReport.com File Photo
