SMITHFIELD – The Town of Smithfield will use funds from a 2021 grant to pay for an assessment of sewer infrastructure in the Downtown area.
A $27,607 low bid was awarded Nov. 14 for the work. The project includes the inspecting the sanitary sewer system with video cameras to determine the condition and areas that may be in need of repair. The Downtown area has some of the oldest sewer infrastructure in Smithfield.
Three bids were received for the project. The cost will be paid for from a $150,000 NC Division of Environmental Quality Clean Water State Revolving Fund Asset Inventory and Assessment grant applied for, and awarded to the town, two years ago.
The other bids received were in the amounts of $29,115 and $31,300. Waterworks Inc. was the lowest bidder and awarded the contract.
