The Smithfield Public Utilities Department will be getting a new piece of equipment to help employees cut and clear easements.
The Town Council has awarded a bid to East Coast Equipment in Winterville for the purchase of a new John Deere 4066R four wheel drive compact tractor and six foot rotary cutter at $44,542.51. Funds for the purchase will be taken from cost savings from the purchase of a bucket truck that came in under budget. The tractor purchase was in the utility department’s 10 Year Capital Improvement Plan.
Three bids were solicited for the purchase. A John Deere factory bid of $45,497 and a bid from East Coast Equipment in Smithfield of $50,152 were rejected for the lower bid from Winterville.
