Bids Awarded For School Roof Replacement Projects

The Johnston County Board of Education has awarded bids totaling $10,896,000 for the replacement of roofs at three public schools.

Clayton Middle School will be getting a new roof after the school board awarded a $4,800,000 contract to LaFave’s Construction Company. Clayton Middle still has the original roof installed when the school was first built back in 1995. Routine maintenance and repairs have taken place over the years but the entire roof is in need of replacement.

A $3,940,000 bid was awarded to Muter Construction to replace the 24 year-old roof at Selma Middle School. The original roof is in need of complete replacement.

A $2,156,000 bid was awarded in April to Muter Construction to replace the roof at Cleveland Elementary School. The school was built in 1994 and still has the original roof. There are major issues where the existing metal roof and flat roof meet. Patching the roofs are no longer viable.
